Thelma (Graham) Kula,
age 91 of Old Walnut Hill Road, Uniontown, Pa. died peacefully on April
14, 2011 at Kline Hospice House in Mt. Airy, Maryland.
She was born April 22 1919 in Woodsboro, Maryland, the daughter of the
late George Hanson Graham and late Lillian Shirley Graham.
Thelma was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Joseph's Roman
Catholic Church since her marriage to the late Joseph Frank Kula in 1944.
She was a former member of the Parish Council, a choir member for many
years, a charter member of St. Joseph's Confraternity of Christian Mothers,
as well as a charter member of the Happy Helens Club.
Thelma was a graduate of Walkersville High School, Class of 1936, and
Hood College, Frederick, Maryland, class of 1940. She was employed as a
science and mathematics teacher at Frederick High School, Frederick,
Maryland, Benjamin Franklin Junior High School from 1944 to 1955 and
Laurel Highlands Junior High School from 1962 to 1983. She was a
member of Fayette County Association of School Retirees and the
Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband,
Joseph F. Kula, in April 1998, a sister, Barbara Graham Smith in 1988 and
a brother, G. Arthur Graham in May 2009.
Surviving are her son, Joseph R. Kula and his wife, Deborah; two
grandchildren, Justin R. Kula and Rachel M. Kula of Frederick, Maryland;
sister-in-law Shirley Baker Graham and daughters Patricia Bowers and
Susan Smith; brother-in-law Roland E. Smith and daughter Sandra Hisrsch;
sister-in-law Dorothy Yablonsky Kula and daughters: Linda Noel, Judith
and Toni Kula; nieces: Kathryn Krofcheck, Carol Karpinsky, Constance
Peton, Marcia Deal, Sylvia Capello, Joan Barkley and Irene Preston;
nephews: William Zawacki, Robert Zawacki, Frank Kula, William Kula,
Raymond Oberleitner, Raymond Kula and numerous cousins, great nieces
and great nephews. She is also survived by a special friend whom she knew
since 1925, Katherine Stauffer.
Friends will be received at the KEZMARSKY FUNERAL HOME, 71
Pennsylvania Avenue, Uniontown, Pa. on Saturday, April 16 from 7 to 9
p.m. and Sunday, April 17 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm and Monday morning
until 9:30 am when Parting Prayers will be said followed by a 10 a.m.
Funeral Mass at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church with Rev. Father
Ronald L. Simboli as Celebrant. Interment follows at St. Joseph's Church
Cemetery, Hopwood, Pa.
